So last night, I was playing Scott Pilgrim and I was inspired to make some pixel characters. I did one (of a character I can't show you guys), it came out okay, I guess.
But I continued playing with the pencil tool, and this was the result. Technically, it's the brush tool in pencil mode. Basically, pencil mode is the brush tool but without anti-aliasing (the edges are all rough and jagged). And wow, it made inking so much easier!
Just using the pencil tool was very inspiring for me. I think it might make the comics process easier. All of my experiments up until this point have been inking in Illustrator, which is gorgeous but takes entirely too long (like, when you factor in that I ink the page in Illustrator, a page takes days to complete, it's a nightmare). I think I'm going to sacrifice a little bit of quality for speed, but I think the hand-drawn quality of the inks will actually really lend themselves to the page, so it's not all bad.
Tell me what you think!
PS: I have a total fetish for drawing shiny material, if not a fetish for the material itself. It's so much fun!
Also, I clearly have a new obsession with the color yellow. It's like the new pink or something.
