Villain Month - 13 - P.O.I.G.

Description

Hello everyone! Getting today's entry out earlier than usual, for a change.

P.O.I.G., which stands for "Person of Indeterminate Gender," is one of Count Olaf's associates from the children's book series, "A Series of Unfortunate Events."

In the books, he or she was described as being very large and very blank. The unfortunate Baudelaire orphans were never able to tell whether or not this creature was a man or a woman.

I don't think this character has ever been properly designed. In the film, the character was sort of made to look like half a man, and half a woman, played by the (comparatively thin) Craig Ferguson. And Brett Helquist's portrayal of the character (which is basically what you see in my image) looks like a rather ugly, large woman with an Ellen DeGeneres haircut.

But for the sake of being official and saving time, I chose Helquist's version and tampered with the design a bit (most notably, the top hat, usually a male accessory). Overall, I think this image is actually not that great save for the neat texture in the fur, but it fills the day. I had something much better pictured in my mind, and if I get the chance I'll redraw the character and post him/her on another day this month (along with another villain), making it a double villain day or something.

I hope you guys enjoy it, even though I may not be in love with it.

Adobe Photoshop CS, about 45 minutes total.

The Person of Indeterminate Gender is (c) Daniel Handler or Harpercollins publishers, this image is (c) me, Andrew Green.
