Well good comedy always gets me, and it's propably easier to pull of random jokes on weekly basis as an artist, than create weekly updated, serious webcomic. Also, long webcomic projects die easier than strips, especially if the plot is mainly improvized, and block in drawing/plotline might strike much harded than with short comics. But well, still, longer webcomics "serious ones" are in a way more rewarding than strips or shorties, since they are capable of awakening more emotions in viewers, more than just "oh lol that's funny" or "that's totally unfunny". Anyway, many have said that, and I agree to it, humour must come out naturally. I often think too that I can't pull off anything funny, and I lack ingredients of funny in my very personality, but I just have to draw whatever comes to my mind :'3 thinking too hard will only result in sad attempts.

Blaaargh sorry for the ramble!

I voted "It doesn't matter to me! As long as it's good content, I'm happy." and unless this already falls under the "good content" part I'd like to add in that agree with *nna that as long as its something original it'll be just fine. That's what I'm always looking for and in my opinion its what makes a web comic/strip/animation worthwhile and fun to read. Something that really gets to me, though, is the majority of web comics that I've managed to stumble across are poorly drawn or just inconsistant with it's quality which may or may not be due to time constraints. But that's something that really turns me off, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. So in the end, being sloppy like that isn't worth it. That's why I'll never run a comic, I'm too much of a procrastinator and I wouldn't be able to keep the quality of my work up to par.

Are you planning on making a web comic? Or is it a secret ...?

My view on webcomics and comics in general is that as long as the content is good, the release time can be varied for the quality of the content. Thus it depends on how much time the artist can put into the work. Not to mention writing, heh.
A weekly comic doesn't have to be based around comedy just as a comedy comic doesn't have to be updated weekly. Look at VGCats, barely updates anymore but when Scott does.. they are usually hilarious. Heh.

Yeah, but when you're starting out, there's no excuse for updating any less often than weekly. Scott Ramsoomair has the advantage of being extremely popular, so he could update once a month and still receive tons of readership.

Still, I get your point. Thank you for your time and opinion! ^_^

I love comedy as a genre, but I've seen so many BAD webcomics that make the most horrid attempts at being funny (oh god will people please stop making comics about their sad college lives) that I go more for anything that has something that catches my interest.

I don't keep up with webcomics anymore though, now there are so many x.O

Yeah, there really are a ton. And I agree: nothing is worse than somebody trying to be funny who clearly isn't funny.

That's actually something I'm afraid of. If I decide to do something humorous (webcomic, strip, animation, whatever), I'm always afraid nobody else is going to think it's funny, because honestly, I basically inherited bad humor.

I'd say just stick with any sort of humor that comes naturally. I think the comics that stuck out the most to me were always the comics that were trying to be exactly like some other popular webcomic, and weren't doing anything original. The world doesn't need a million clones of Megatokyo or Penny Arcade, and I think everyone has some sort of creative idea of their own it's just the matter of fleshing it out to it's full potential.

There are always going to be people who like and dislike your humor regardless. There were some people who thought my old comic was comedy genius even though so much of it was completely random and was most likely written when I was hyper. And then there were those who hated it. That's what is great about the internet though- you can get every sort of audience out there.

Hm, definitely a good point. I guess I can't impress everybody, right? Thanks for your time and opinion and for your help!

well most people would view comedy because most of the time they do it quickly in their spare time, and something story linish they would have to follow and in the beginning that would be very hard to attract people.

but me I view both, mostly comedy cuz there aren't THAT many good content web comics.
and even that comic that I read has some aspects to comedy so... yea a well balanced mix I would say... and a good logical story line, unless it;s completely random of course.

wow that was a lot |'3
