Perrin and the Grasp

Hey folks!

So, this has been my entire day, basically.

I sketched out an image of psychic Perrin, from my original property, "Wildflowers," and surrounded him by a bunch of garden-variety spirits from the story, since he spent so much time with them as a kid (his sister raised him, and she's a master of the crystal ball, making it easy for her to summon these little helpers as often as she liked).

I spent a good three hours on the first version of the image, which contained no lineart and was going to be an attempt at using painting-like methods in Illustrator, but the result of that work (which only yielded Perrin's face and hair) was absolutely horrendous. Perrin's face appeared to be melting, and his hair was just...bad. I can't even describe it.

So I started over, because I had faith in the sketch, if not the original method. I knew I could make it into something pretty awesome. And I think I did just that!

I've been experimenting with new color palettes and lighting, and I feel like I'm getting better with more atmospheric colors. I worked pretty hard to make it appear as though the spirits were emitting a soft glow from their bodies, but not their teeth, and that the glow was only affecting Perrin just a little bit.

"The Grasp" refers to psychic power, and that eye symbol in the back represents the Grasp. It's kinda like the force from Star Wars. ;D
